How long does it take to grind a stump?

A 12 to 18 inch stump usually takes 15 to 30 minutes with our 31 HP grinder; a 30 inch hardwood stump with exposed roots can take an hour or more. Most homeowners finish several stumps in a half day. Hard species like oak and hickory, and stumps with rocks around them, take longer.

Can I haul a stump grinder in my pickup?

Yes. Our self-propelled grinders weigh under 1,000 lb and drive onto a small utility trailer or a pickup with ramps. We will load it for you at the yard and show you the controls. If you do not have a trailer, we can deliver it.

What do I do with the wood chips after grinding?

Grinding leaves a mound of chips mixed with soil. Rake out the excess for mulch in beds or paths, then backfill the hole with topsoil, tamp it and seed. Chips left in the hole will settle as they decompose, so leave the backfill slightly high. Call 811 before grinding if the stump is near a buried utility line.
